Are you familiar with Web Page Test?
When I test my page on a Chrome or Firefox browser, there is no image compression. I verify this by going to "Performance Review" and looking the column "Compress Img".
There is nothing checked.
However, if I do the same test on IE browser, then I see image compression.
I believe the previous version of W3 Total Cache, I was getting compression when testing with Chrome browser.
