This is probably a basic question but is there a way to clear the cache after a certain amount of time?

At the moment i'm having to go in manually and clear the cache otherwise my Twitter feed doesn't update.

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been asked or if the answer can be found in 5 seconds on Google - I have spent the last 6 hours researching this and haven't had any luck.

We have just started using W3TC and it is awesome. We do all of our theme deployments via Capistrano, which all works great with W3TC. The only slight problem we have is we now need to login to Wordpress, head to Performance >> CDN >> Select 'Upload Theme Files' >> Select 'Start' (obviously to get the latest version of the theme styles, etc, onto the CDN).

Is there anyway we can trigger this upload via cli, so that we can roll it into our cap deployment?

Thanks in advance to those who comment :)

Simple solution for now is to downgrade back to version 0.9.2.11: http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/w3-total-cache.0.9.2.11.zip

Just unzip the package and overwrite all the files in your current wp-content/plugins/w3-total-cache directory. It will work all fine.

What is the lesson?

Never update immediately when it comes to W3TC. Just wait another 1 or 2 weeks and a newer version will probably already be available which fixed a lot of bugs of the version before that.

I am running Wordpress V3.6 and W3 Total Cache v0.9.3.

With W3 Total Cache enabled if I am logged into my Wordpress admin panel and I then view the frontend of my site my home page slider works as it should and all custom css is correctly applied. If I then log out of my Wordpress admin panel and again view the frontend of my site, my home page slider stops working and my custom css is not applied. I log in again to my Wordpress admin panel and the slider and custom css work again.

I suspected that this behaviour might have something to do with JS & CSS minification but no. The same behaviour applies even when I disable Minify under the W3 Total Cache General Settings tab.

Would anyone have any idea what may be causing this issue?

Thanks

I was/am having the same issue ... sort of. I am getting the same error message when testing the configuration.

I have tided to 'validate' the configuration 2 ways.
(1) AWS>Sect Creds> CloudFront > Access and Secret
(2) Create User / Group / Permissions via IAM with the AWS Policy Generator.

However, even though the plugin does not validate the Access Key and Secret Key... CloudFront is serving content for my domain / site. I know this because when viewing the page source in the browser the CNAME configured in Route53 is visible. If you don't have Route 53 configured with a sub domain for CloudFront you will just see something like #######.cloudfront.com

My guess is that the plugin validation needs to be updated and I wouldn't worry about the "Empty Access Key' error if in fact CloudFront is serving content.

If your server configured properly, you should not need to update nginx.conf manually, W3TC will be able to do it for you. What error msz you are getting? If you have solved it already, share it with us and mark the thread as solved.

After I enabled the minify function for HTML i realized it breakes my feed. I disabled the minify function for feeds, emptied all caches, nothing changed. Then I disabled all HTML minification, emptied all caches, problem still occurs. Disabled minify completely in the general menu.

Now, once out of ~5 times the feed loads correctly. However, once the site is refreshed, it will displayed the messed up version again. After a few refreshes, the feed displays properly again. This only happens for not-logged in users.

Anyone knows what could be going on here?

I am currently having 1 WP website built for me, and am building 1 WP myself. My developer installed W3 Total Cache on both sites. Immediately after it was installed, the images on both of my sites stopped updating.

Specifically, I can upload new images with new names, and those show up. I can change data and add lines of text and such, and those show up. But if I specifically replace an image in the directory with a new image which has the same name, nothing happens.

I've emptied the w3tc cache on both sites, emptied the cache from my browser multiple times, deactivated-tested-then reactivated w3tc, each multiple times and in different combinations, and none of it fixed the images (on either site).

That being said, once, just ONCE, the images updated on their own, but I have no idea why (I wasn't doing a test when this happened). Then they went back to not updating.

I need to be able to upload images to my directory and have them replace the old ones, because I need to replace automatically-generated thumbnails, so just uploading new images directly through WP is not an option.

Also, turning w3tc off is not an option, because even when it is disabled, the problem persists. I'd think that it wasn't a w3tc cache problem, except that it didn't happen before the install.

Do you have any idea what could be causing this? :(

Thank you for your time! :D

Hi there,

I'd like to know if it really makes sense to work with both cloudflare and CDN (like MaxCDN) together ?

My understanding is Cloudflare works like a CDN, caching data. So, what is the added value of CDN working in parallel ? Is it really much more performant ?
I host my wordpress at home and and have basic free cloudflare account. GTMetrix ranks me A (98%) for page speed and B (85%) on Yslow grade.
Do you really think using CDN will increase my speed ?

Thanks
PE

Bob Hennessey on "W3 Total Cache: Full Object cache seems to flush when post is updated"

I've been working with 2 different versions of W3TC (0.9.3 and 0.9.2.4) but am experiencing the same caching issue and I can't figure out what's causing it.

Basically I have W3TC configured to use memcached for object cache on the live servers, and to use disk cached for my dev machine. I have some code that I use to cache various portions of a page:

global $post;
			$expire = 60*60*1;
			$cacheKey= $post->ID."#".$page;
			$cacheGroup = "single";
			$output = wp_cache_get( $cacheKey, $cacheGroup );
			if ( $output != "" ) {
				// use cached value
				echo "<!-- use cache: ".$cacheGroup."#".$cacheKey." -->";
				echo $output;
			} else {
				echo "<!-- build cache: ".$cacheGroup."#".$cacheKey." -->";
				ob_start();

				?>
HTML HERE...
	<?php
				$output =ob_get_flush();
				// now cache output
				echo "<!-- save cache: ".$cacheGroup."#".$cacheKey." ".$expire." -->";
				wp_cache_set( $cacheKey, $output, $cacheGroup, $expire );
				echo "<!-- done -->";
			}
			?>

This will basically save the display of the body of a page into object cache. 1st request to a page you see the 'build' comment, then all following requests until the cache expires you see the 'use cache' comment.

My Problem: I've noticed that every time I go into the admin in edit a post and save it (generally in a published state) when I re-request my page I notice it always needed to have the cache rebuilt again. Every page that had been previously cached now needed their cache rebuilt when requested.

It seems is something is getting trigger on post save that is flushing the object cache. From looking at the plugin settings I don't see anything.

I've tried shutting off all other plugins, switching themes, but the problem still happens. I would think if this were a problem with W3TC then everyone would be having it.

Has anyone else had this type of problem?

I know this is a dumb question but I am not sure so I'll ask.

If you make a mistake and set browser cache (html) longer than 1800 or 3600 seconds. Lets say you set it for 7 days or something dumb.

Will spiders coming to your site continue to see the old (cached) content?

I think the answer is yes but just wasnt sure...

Thanks...

I'm having this exact issue.

When testing the Cloudfront distribution I receive: "Error: Empty access key."

So in the w3tc CDN Configuration settings, under "Origin" I clicked "Create distribution" and it created a new distribution - which I verified by viewing my AWS Cloudfront Distributions dashboard.

So now I have two distributions in my AWS Dashboard. I disabled my original one and let the new one propagate. I also created a 2nd Access Key ID (with Secret Access Key).

In the w3tc CDN Configuration settings I input the new Access Key ID and new Secret Access Key. I also entered the new distribution prefix in the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.cloudfront.net field.

When I test the distribution I still get this message: "Error: Empty access key." Despite the error the CDN is still serving my page, but here's the kicker: when I purge the CDN of files (like say a style.css file) it purges/invalidates the OLD CDN distribution - the one I disabled!

"W3 Total Cache Error: Files and directories could not be automatically created to complete the installation.

Every time I update W3 Total Cache I get this message. How do I install updates manually?? I have tried clicking the "update via FTP" and that does nothing.

Is there a real solution to the problem yet or is there an update around the corner?

This is the first time I have used CouldFront with this site so I haven't invalidated anything yet.

I am curious though... when you view page source which distribution is serving content?

JS minification doesn't bode well with a lot of JS libraries. Since the gains from JS minification are minimal it's better to leave it off.
